Commissioned by Rijkswaterstaat (Department of Waterways and Public Works) Hapo’s Missing Link cranebarge was used to restore the floodgates. After major overhaul the hundred tons weighing floodgates where hoisted back into position yesterday afternoon.

The lock protects the southern parts of the province of Zeeland against the high tides. It’s also very important for marine traffic. The Volkeraksluizen are situated next to the village Willemstad. It devides the rivers Hollandsch Diep and the Volkerak. Yearly traffic is estimated around 150.000 cargoships.
